Vultures at Dhangadhi, Nepal 2012

Dhangadhi (28°41′N 80°36′E), the capital of Kailali District lies in the Far West of Nepal. It is just 180m above sea level and is situated in the lowland Terai region that borders India. In fact, the Indian border is less than 5km from here.

For the last couple of weeks (maybe more because I have been away), fairly good numbers of vultures have been passing over the house on a daily basis (see main blog). Below are several shots of birds left unidentified. As with the Tansen birds on the previous page, please comment on the identification of these birds and, if possible, explain why you have come to your conclusion. Although adult White-rumped Vulture is by far the commonest I see, many of these are distinctly larger, though some must surely be immature White-rumped. All photos were taken between 6-18 April, 2012

Just trying to get comfortable with all this in order to submit reliable data, so PLEASE do comment. If you'd rather comment privately email me at markdread@gmail.com
